Synastry Chart Reading
Synastry compares two birth charts to explore how two people's planets interact. See where the chemistry flows, where communication clicks, where emotional needs align and where friction may need awareness.
Create a Synastry ReadingWhat is Synastry?
Synastry is a core technique in relationship astrology. It works by placing two birth charts side by side and examining how the planets in one chart form aspects to the planets in the other.
For example, if your Venus falls close to another person's Moon, there may be themes of emotional warmth and affection between you. If your Saturn squares their Mars, there might be themes of friction, restriction or challenge that require awareness.
Synastry does not determine whether a relationship is good or bad. It explores the symbolic patterns between two people's energies — offering a framework for reflection rather than a verdict.

How Two Charts are Compared
Both charts are calculated
Each person's birth details — date, time and place — are used to calculate their individual natal chart.
Charts are overlaid
The planetary positions from both charts are placed into a single combined wheel or comparison grid, showing where each planet sits in relation to the other person's chart.
Aspects are identified
The angular relationships between the two sets of planets are calculated. Each significant aspect is noted — conjunctions, trines, squares, oppositions and sextiles.
Patterns are interpreted
The combination of aspects, house overlays and planet contacts is interpreted to explore the symbolic themes present between the two charts.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is synastry?
Synastry is the astrological technique of comparing two birth charts. The planets in one person's chart are overlaid with the planets in another's, and the aspects (angular relationships) between them are interpreted to explore how the two people interact symbolically.
What aspects are most significant in synastry?
Conjunctions (0°) are generally the most powerful — they blend two energies closely together. Trines (120°) suggest ease and compatibility. Squares (90°) may indicate tension or dynamic friction. Oppositions (180°) can show strong attraction alongside polarity. There are no purely 'good' or 'bad' aspects in synastry.
Is synastry the same as a composite chart?
No. Synastry compares two individual charts side by side. A composite chart combines them into a single midpoint chart that represents the relationship itself as an entity. Both are useful and complementary techniques.
Can synastry tell me if we are soulmates?
Synastry can highlight strong connections and significant patterns between two charts. However, astrology is a symbolic system for reflection — not a mechanism for definitive verdicts about relationships. Readings are for entertainment and self-reflection only.
Do I need birth times for both people?
Accurate birth times are needed for Rising signs and house cusps. Without them, you can still run a planetary synastry using date and place alone, which covers all ten planets and their interactions.
